sHDR TUTORIAL
By Matias Gonzales (Matkraken) traductiob by (Demien_Blackmore)

Hi everybody, i came this time to bring you this photography tutorial,
since i haven`t seen an HDR tutorial in spanish at least not well explained
i gave myself to the task of make this tutorial because i have found several
tutorials, so i don`t assume all the credit for it, but i`ll try to explaine it
the best i can...
What is HDR?
Acording to wikipedia...

HDR "High Dynamic Range Rendering" Is a rendering technology that imitates
the functioning of the pupil in the human eye, The human eye has the ability
to adapt continously and with great efficiency to the different Luminosities
of a same escene opening or closing the pupil while all the information is
being procesed to the brain. This way this organ is capable to make a zone
with different iluminations visible in a clear form.
Photographic machines Doesñ`t have this adaptation so they have by means
of the exposure meter (meter of light) take an average of the different zones
and take a picture with this...
This means that some zones can remain well illuminated but at the cost of that
others remain obscure and some others too white
With the HDR techniques is suposed to correct this failiure in the photography
geting a well illuminated photography in all of their zones even if it contents
very different quantities of light or illumination.

What do we need?
The original HDR technique is achieved with a serie of 3 or even more pictures with
different exhibitions but the same capture, so we need a tripod, because in digital cameras
you can change the exhibition but to make the job a lot easier we will do it in the same picture

What we need is:
PHOTOSHOP CS2 or CS3
CAMERA RAW (latest version)
PHOTOMATIXPRO

Note: CAMERA RAW is an aplication tha comes by default with the PHOTOSHOP CS2 and CS3 but
generaly it is an old aplication and supports a few cameras

STEP Nº 1

Create a new folder with the name "HDR" or somethign like it, Then we open our Photoshop
CS3 or CS2 and then we head up to the menu EDITION/PREFERENCES/FILE MANAGER Then we select the option
PREFER RAW OF CAMERA TO OPEN ADOBE FILES .JPG

Doing this the CAMERA RAW when we open our picture. Now we close our PHOTOSHOP and then we open
it once again and we select our picture, doing that the CAMERA RAW has to open simultaneously if the
CAMERA RAW is because our CAMERA RAW is an older version and it doesn`t support your tipe of camera
(You must update it, to do so, search in ADOBE or some website, and put the update in the folder the website
told you to put the update)

STEP 2
Many of you maybe wondering what the CAMERA RAW is for? this edition tool that serves to improve the picture
in the levels we need as the saturation, shine (glow) contrast, e.t.c.

Try to use the options, but each time leave a neutral picture, not too dark, nor very clear, once we agree with the
result. click the button SAVE IMAGE then choose the folder we`ve created before and then name it ORIGINAL with
an extension of the file .JPG and quality 12

Once we`ve created the file we are going to use, follow the steps carefully

With the file ORIGINAL saved place once again in the CAMERA RAW, we go to exhibition and this time we put as value
+1 we go to SAVE IMAGE and input as name "ORIGINAL+1" let`s head back again to the CAMERA RAW
We put as exhibition value +2, then we SAVE IMAGE once again and replace the name for "ORIGINAL+2" SAVE and we head back again
to the program

Now we`re going to give it negative values -1 on exhibition, and then we save the file as "ORIGINAL-1" and we head back again to the program
and then we put as value -2 on exhibition, and then repeat the SAVE IMAGE and replace the name for "ORIGINAL-2"

Once we finish this steps in our "HDR" folder we should have like 5 .JPG different files with different exhibitions...

STEP 3
We close the PHOTOSHOP, then open the PHOTOMATIXPRO, then we go to the menu "HDR/GENERATE" click in BROWSE and then select all the files
and then we accept

Generally the values will be

ORIGINAL+2.JPG 2
ORIGINAL+1.JPG 1
ORIGINAL.JPG 0
ORIGINAL-1.JPG -1
ORIGINAL-2.JPG -2

You can change the values of the order. Once you accept, click on the option that will appear
the option that comes deactivated by default "ALIGN SOURCE IMAGES"
Accept and wait... once finished click the option "TONE MAPPING"

Then you`ll see several options to modify your HDR
in here you can use wathever you want to do so, i`ll make a small description of each one in order
to let you know what they serve for, but i strongly recomend that you dare to experiment with each
one so you can experiment and play a litle with the results.

STRENGTH: This option accentuate the HDR effect, it can provoque very much focus (aproach) but it
can be fixed up with another option that smooths the texture
COLOR SATURATION: this option serves to raise the saturation, it`s preferable to do it with the PHOTOSHOP
LIGHT SMOOTHING: Types of illumination of the HDR, with minor degrees a small points appear that
sometimes are not suitable, it`s optional i recommend that you should try the options.
LUMINOSITY: The main and general illumination, not much to explain, lol
WHITE POINT: The target, while higer the value, higer the strength the clarity in the image will be
BLACK POINT: Exactly the opposite, while higer the value, higer the strength the darkness in the HDR photography
GAMMA: The combination of both, play a litle with this values, you can actually find pretty good results

Another options: COLOR
TEMPERATURE: this option provokes an effect of warmth to combine the colors and to create an image more monochromatic
SATURATION HIGHLIGHT: This option controls the saturation in the average colors
SATURATION SHADOWS: This option controls the saturation of the colors in the shades

Another options: MICRO
MICROCONTRAST: What this effect achieves is to detail the whole photography, I always use this option in a high value but
it darkens the image, though this can be fixed up with other options
MICROSMOOTHING: This option smooths everything, erase details, i use it to erase the noise in the image, good things can
be achieved if you experiment with it

LAST OPTIONS S/H
This Options are used to fix the illumination
HIGHLIGHTS SMOOTHING: The lights are smoothed and gives preferences to the average lighting
SHADOW SMOOTHING: The shadows are smoothed and gives preferences to the average shadows
SHADOW CLIPING: This option dakens the the average points creating a marked effect, almost as a drawing

ONCE WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE RESULT. CLICK "PROCESS"
NOW "FILE/SAVE AS" SAVE IT IN ".TIFF" 16 BITS.. THEN OPEN THE PICTURE IN PHOTOSHOP EDIT WHAT YOU WANT
GENERALY I USE THE FILTER "REMOVE NOISE" TO IMPROVE THE SMEAR (FILTH) IN THE PICTURE, FINALLY SAVE IT IN .JPG
AND IT DONE! WE HAVE OUR IMPROVED PICTURE... :D
